This Teriyaki Salmon in the Air Fryer comes together super quickly and easier! The perfect weeknight meal, this air fryer teriyaki salmon comes together in under 30 minutes. This healthy salmon features a deliciously crispy skin and amazing sticky teriyaki sauce that is packed with flavour.

If you need an easy healthy dinner, then this teriyaki salmon is just for you! I have a delicious oven-baked teriyaki salmon but this air fryer version is my go-to in the summer when I don’t want to heat up the kitchen with my oven.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • This teriyaki salmon bowl is quick, easy, and healthy – making it a perfect quick dinner or as a meal prep!
  • The salmon fillets are moist, flaky, and packed with flavour. You will fall in love at your first bite. The sauce on the salmon is sticky, sweet, and tangy, you’ll be hooked.
  • This salmon with teriyaki sauce goes with pretty much everything! I usually serve it with some rice and steamed vegetables but you can serve it with so much more!

Ingredients You’ll Need For Air Fryer Teriyaki Salmon

Ingredients needed to make air fryer teriyaki salmon.
  • soy sauce — use low sodium soy sauce.
  • honey — I usually use honey but you can use maple syrup instead of honey.
  • orange juice or pineapple juice — I prefer pineapple juice but orange juice is more accessible and budget-friendly. You can use bottled orange juice or freshly squeezed.
  • garlic — I recommend freshly minced garlic. However, you can use garlic powder instead for a smooth sauce.
  • mirin — mirin is a Japanese sweet rice wine. If you do not have any, you can swap for rice vinegar with extra honey.
  • cornstarch — to help with the thickening of the teriyaki sauce.
  • salmon — this air fryer teriyaki salmon recipe uses skin-on salmon.
  • to serve — I like to garnish my salmon with green onions and sesame seeds and serve the salmon with rice, broccoli, and carrots.

How to Make Teriyaki Salmon in the Air Fryer

Set of two photos showing marinade mixed in a bowl and salmon added to the bowl.
  • Combine soy sauce, honey, OJ, garlic, and mirin. Set aside half.
  • Marinate the salmon in half the teriyaki sauce, skin side up, for 15 to 30 minutes in the fridge.

  • When ready, spray the air fryer basket with oil. Shake off any excessive marinade and place the salmon, skin side down into the air fryer basket, with some space in between each filet. Discard the marinade.
  • Air fry at 400F for 7 to 9 minutes. Air fry in batches if your air fryer basket is not large enough to fit all 4 filets.
  • Meanwhile, to the half of the teriyaki sauce that’s been set aside, add the cornstarch to it and transfer it to a saucepan.

  • Bring to a boil over medium-high heat in a small saucepan then reduce the heat to medium and let it reduce for around 8 to 10 minutes until it’s thickened to your liking, stirring frequently.
  • Gently remove salmon from the air fryer with tongs. Drizzle the cooked sauce on top and garnish with sesame seeds and green onions.

Recipe Tips and Notes

  • Add in a small knob of ginger for more of a “zesty” kick.
  • Add in red chili flakes or sriracha to spice things up.
  • Try to get salmon fillets of a similar size so they cook evenly in the air fryer.
  • If you’re unsure if your salmon is cooked through, you can use an instant-read thermometer to check that the internal temperature is 52C to 57C (125F to 135F).
  • If you’re concerned that your salmon will stick to your air fryer basket, line the basket with a thin layer of parchment paper or an air fryer liner.
  • Keeping the skin on as the salmon cooks in the air fryer will help it retain some moisture. You can remove the skin before serving if you prefer but I love the crispy skin.
  • Try to leave a little bit of salmon between the fillets so the hot air can circulate. They can touch a little before cooking as they’ll shrink as they cook so the hot air can reach all of the fish.

Make Ahead Tips

  • Meal prep: once cooled, store the cooked teriyaki salmon in an airtight container for up to 4 days in the fridge.
  • Reheat: you can reheat the salmon in the air fryer at 350F-375F for about 3-4 minutes until warmed through.

What Goes Well With Teriyaki Salmon (Air Fryer)

This air fryer teriyaki salmon goes with so many different sides. Here are some of my favourites:

Can I use bottled teriyaki sauce?

You can! Bottled teriyaki sauce is usually thicker so you could skip simmering the sauce to thicken. However, I highly recommend trying this homemade teriyaki sauce as it’s quite flavourful and easy to make!

Do I have to flip the salmon in the air fryer?

Nope, there’s no need to flip the salmon as you risk tearing it as you flip the fillets.

What temperature should I cook my salmon on in the air fryer?

I like to cook the salmon in the air fryer at 400F so it cooks quickly. You risk drying out the salmon when cooked at a lower temperature.

Can I use frozen salmon?

You can! Thaw the salmon beforehand and pat the fillets dry before marinading them. I don’t recommend air frying the salmon directly from frozen.
