Lavender London Fog – Carmy


A cozy tea latte, this Lavender London Fog drink is so easy to make at home! Earl Grey tea combined with lavender, syrup, vanilla, and steamy milk, this floral, creamy latte will warm you from the inside out.

I love a good london fog latte, but do you know what makes it taste even better? Lavender! This recipe combines a traditional london fog drink but amps up the lavender notes in the earl grey tea by adding some lavender buds to the drink and using homemade lavender syrup. It is SO good!

Ingredients You’ll Need

Ingredients needed to make a lavender london fog.
  • earl grey tea — you can use loose leaf or a bag. I recommend using good-quality tea as some tea bags do not use whole tea leaves but use small broken leaves and tea dust.
  • lavender — make sure to get culinary-grade lavender. I’m quite lucky that there are a ton of lavender farms in Ontario, and I purchased mine at this shop in Dundas. You can also find it on Amazon.
  • vanilla — I recommend using real vanilla extract and not artificial extract for the best flavor.
  • lavender syrup — I use a homemade lavender syrup, but you can also use store-bought lavender syrup. If you do not want to purchase or make lavender syrup, you can use vanilla syrup, honey, or maple syrup to sweeten the drink.
  • milk — you can use any type of milk you prefer.

How to Make Lavender London Fog

  • In a heat-safe measuring cup or cup, steep the earl grey tea with the lavender buds. Let it steep for 2 to 3 minutes, depending on how strong you’d like the latte to be. Meanwhile, use a milk steamer to steam your milk. I use my trusty smeg.
  • To a heat-safe cup, add the lavender syrup or sweetener of your choice along with the vanilla extract.

  • Strain the tea into the cup.
  • Add the milk.

Recipe Tips and Notes

  • You can add a pinch of brown sugar for a deeper sweet flavor, as the molasses will give you some caramel notes.
  • You can simply froth your milk or just add the milk directly to the tea if you prefer.
  • Lavender buds can taste pretty strong, so try not to add too much at once if it’s your first time using lavender.
  • If you don’t have a frother, heat up milk on the stovetop. It won’t be foamy but it’ll still be delicious.

Does lavender london fog have caffeine in it?

Yes, London fog generally contains caffeine due to the black tea. Alternatively, you can use decaffeinated Earl Grey tea for a decaffeinated london fog.

Can I make this stronger?

You can make this london fog stronger by steeping the tea longer, using two tea bags, or by adding a shot of espresso for a more intense flavor.

  • ¼ tsp dried lavender
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tsp lavender syrup, or vanilla syrup, honey, or maple syrup
  • ½ to ⅓ cup hot water
  • ½ cup milk, or more
